The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.
Habakkuk 3:19
What’s the highest you’ve ever reached? The tallest building you’ve ever ascended? The greatest mountain you’ve ever scaled? God wants you to go higher. God helps you reach new heights. As a child, we wanted to grab things on the top shelf or see over the crowds or climb to the top of the stairs. We did not like being so small. We needed a boost, so our parents grabbed us and helped us up. We reached new heights, but only with Mom or Dad’s help.
What This Teaches Us
This verse reveals God’s desire to elevate you beyond your natural abilities: God wants your marriage to be the absolute best. He wants your job to exceed all expectations. God wants to answer your impossible dreams. You can’t get there on your own strength. But you can get there with God’s strength. He wants to give you a boost.
Like a deer that can navigate steep, rocky terrain with sure-footed grace, God makes your feet stable and confident as you climb. Deer can reach heights that seem impossible for their size and weight. They bound up mountainsides with ease because their feet are designed for it. God wants to give you that same supernatural ability in the spiritual realm.
The key is understanding that reaching new heights isn’t about your strength—it’s about God’s strength working through you. You need a boost, just like you did as a child. Your parents physically lifted you to see what was beyond your reach. Now God lifts you spiritually to reach what seems impossible.
This isn’t about trying harder or being better—it’s about allowing God to make your feet like a deer’s feet. He transforms your natural limitations into supernatural capabilities. He enables you to tread on heights you could never reach on your own.
How to Apply This in Daily Life
Identify the “heights” God is calling you to reach. What impossible dream, challenging goal, or elevated calling seems beyond your ability? Don’t dismiss it just because you can’t reach it on your own. God wants to give you a boost to get there.
Stop trying to reach these heights in your own strength. Just like a child couldn’t see over the crowds no matter how hard they tried, you can’t achieve your God-given dreams without His help. Admit you need a boost and ask God to lift you.
Trust that God wants to make your feet like a deer’s—sure-footed, stable, and able to navigate steep terrain with grace. When you feel unsteady or incapable, remember that God is strengthening your feet for the climb. He’s not sending you to the heights without equipping you first.
Apply this specifically to your marriage, your job, your ministry, or whatever area God is calling you to excel in. He wants it to exceed all expectations, to be the absolute best. Let Him provide the strength you need to get there. With His boost, you can reach heights you never thought possible.

Prayer For Guidance and Strength
Sovereign Lord, thank You for being my strength. Thank You that You want me to go higher than I’ve ever gone before. Lord, the heights You’re calling me to reach seem impossible. [Name your specific heights—goals, dreams, callings.] I can’t get there on my own strength. I’ve tried, and I’m too small, too limited, too weak.
But You want to give me a boost. Just like my parents grabbed me and helped me up as a child, You want to lift me to new heights. Make my feet like the feet of a deer. Give me sure-footed confidence as I climb steep terrain. Enable me to tread on heights that seem impossible for someone like me.
I want my marriage to be the absolute best. I want my job to exceed all expectations. I want to see my impossible dreams come true. I can’t get there on my own strength, but I can get there with Your strength. You make the impossible possible.
Transform my natural limitations into supernatural capabilities. Don’t let me stay small when You’ve designed me to reach great heights. Give me the boost I need today to climb higher than I’ve ever climbed before. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
