For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 14:33
If you’re lost and confused, unable to make heads or tails of the situation, trying to find your way out of a dark tunnel with no idea where the exit is—that’s not God’s fault. If things are spinning out of control, falling apart and there’s no order in the court—don’t blame God. God is not about confusion and disorder. He makes sense. He’s clear as day. He is light. He is the way. You can’t get lost with God.
What This Teaches Us
This verse reveals something fundamental about God’s character: confusion is not from God. Nor is chaos. Those things happen when a person looks somewhere besides God, making detours that made sense at the time but eventually led nowhere.
If things are chaotic in your world, it’s because you’re trying to do things by your own effort. You trust only yourself to get it done. You may be working with a group of people but soon learn that they all have their own compasses, pointing in different directions. When everyone follows their own direction instead of God’s, chaos is inevitable.
God is the God of peace and order. He’s clear as day. He is light. He is the way. When you follow Him, things make sense. The path may be difficult, but it’s not confusing. You may face challenges, but you know which direction to go. Confusion and chaos are signs that you’ve stopped looking to God as your guide.
Make God your true north. Use Him as a flashlight in darkness. Follow His straight path to righteousness. Everything makes sense to God. He’s at peace and wants you to join Him in that peace instead of wandering in confusion.
How to Apply This in Daily Life
When you feel confused and lost, stop and ask yourself: “Am I looking to God for direction, or am I trying to figure this out on my own?” Confusion is often a sign that you’ve taken your eyes off God and started following your own compass or the competing voices around you.
Make God your true north in every decision. Before you move forward, ask: “What does God say about this? What direction is He pointing?” Don’t take detours that make sense in the moment but lead away from His clear path. His Word is your map, and His Spirit is your guide.
If things are chaotic in your life, examine whether you’re trusting in your own effort or in God’s wisdom. Are you working with others who all have different compasses, pulling in different directions? Bring everyone back to God’s Word as the standard. Unity comes when everyone follows the same true north.
Use God as a flashlight in your darkness. When you can’t see the way forward, don’t wander blindly. Stop, pray, open His Word, and let Him illuminate the next step. He promises to guide you, but you have to be willing to follow His light instead of stumbling along in your own strength.

Prayer For Guidance and Strength
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of peace and order, not confusion and chaos. Thank You that You are clear as day, that You are light, that You are the way. Lord, I confess that when my life feels confusing and chaotic, it’s often because I’ve stopped looking to You for direction. I’ve been trying to do things by my own effort, trusting only myself to get it done.
Forgive me for the detours I’ve taken that seemed to make sense at the time but led me away from Your clear path. Forgive me for following my own compass or the competing voices around me instead of making You my true north. I don’t want to wander in confusion anymore.
Help me to use You as a flashlight in darkness. Show me Your straight path to righteousness. Remind me that everything makes sense to You, even when it doesn’t make sense to me. You’re at peace, and I want to join You in that peace instead of living in chaos.
When I’m working with others, help us all to look to You as our guide instead of pulling in different directions. Bring unity through Your Word and Spirit. Make me someone who brings Your peace and order into every situation instead of adding to the confusion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
