Overcoming with Him-Forged in Faith 2

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up." (ESV)

Galatians 6:9

Don't Give Up

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up.” (ESV)

Impatient farmers are the worst. Important farmers went out on the “most farms.” What if they just planted the seeds, then season we will reap if we do not give up.

In our lives, it’s still no reason to give up. In fact, happen. It’s still no reason to get out of the business. We’d lose world, you tell the farmer to get out of the business. Bad weather was harsh one year and the crops were lost when you tell the farmer.

Doing good—being the right thing—isn’t always easy. You do what’s right and others. It’s just that bad crops were just bad things happen. Things are just hard. Big deal; don’t give up. But don’t give up.

What This Teaches Us

This verse reveals a crucial truth about the Christian life: doing good is a marathon, not a sprint. God promises a harvest, but harvests don’t come immediately after planting. There’s a season of waiting, working, and persevering that comes between sowing and reaping.

Paul knew that weariness is one of the greatest threats to faithfulness. It’s not always dramatic opposition that stops us—sometimes it’s just exhaustion. We get tired of doing the right thing when we don’t see immediate results. We grow weary of being faithful when others around us seem to prosper through shortcuts. We lose heart when our efforts seem to produce nothing.

But God promises: “in due season we will reap if we do not give up.” Notice the condition—if we do not give up. The harvest is certain, but only for those who keep going. The reward is guaranteed, but only for those who endure to the end.

This is the resilience God calls us to—not giving up on doing good even when it’s hard, even when it seems pointless, even when the results are delayed. Keep planting. Keep watering. Keep tending. The harvest is coming.

How to Apply This in Daily Life

When you’re exhausted from doing what’s right and seeing no results, remember the farmer. No farmer plants seeds in the morning and expects to harvest crops that afternoon. There’s a season between planting and reaping—a season of patience, trust, and continued work.

Don’t let bad seasons convince you to abandon good farming. Yes, some years are harsh. Yes, some crops fail despite your best efforts. Yes, circumstances beyond your control can damage what you’ve worked hard to cultivate. But that’s not a reason to quit—it’s a reason to keep planting for the next season.

If you’ve been doing good and growing weary, don’t stop now. The fact that you haven’t seen the harvest yet doesn’t mean it’s not coming. Keep being faithful in your marriage even when it’s thankless. Keep raising your children with godly values even when they rebel. Keep serving at church even when no one notices. Keep choosing integrity at work even when dishonesty would be easier. Keep loving difficult people even when they don’t change.

Your faithful obedience is seed in the ground. It may look like nothing is happening, but beneath the surface, growth is occurring. In due season—God’s season, not yours—you will reap if you do not give up.

The key phrase is “if we do not give up.” The harvest is conditional on perseverance. God will bring the results, but you must stay in the field. Don’t walk away right before the breakthrough. Don’t quit right before the harvest.

Reflection Questions

  • In what areas of your life are you growing weary of doing good? Where are you tempted to give up because you don’t see results?
  • Have you been expecting an immediate harvest when God has called you to a season of patient faithfulness?
  • What “bad seasons” have made you want to quit? Can you trust that one harsh year doesn’t mean you should abandon the field entirely?
  • Do you believe that God will bring a harvest in due season if you don’t give up? What would it look like to keep doing good while you wait?

Prayer For Guidance and Strength

Heavenly Father, I confess that I’m weary. I’ve been doing good, trying to do what’s right, and I’m exhausted. [Name your specific areas of weariness.] I’ve been faithful in my relationships, my work, my service, my obedience—and I don’t see the results I hoped for. Sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth it.

But Your Word promises that in due season I will reap if I do not give up. Thank You for reminding me that there’s a season between planting and harvesting. Thank You that the delay doesn’t mean the harvest won’t come—it just means it’s not time yet.

Help me not to give up. Help me to keep doing good even when I’m tired, even when no one notices, even when the results are invisible. Give me the endurance of a faithful farmer who plants seeds knowing the harvest takes time.

When bad seasons come—when circumstances are harsh and my efforts seem to fail—help me to remember that one difficult year doesn’t mean I should abandon the field. Keep me faithful even through the setbacks.

I trust that You will bring the harvest in due season. Until then, keep me in the field. Keep me planting, keep me working, keep me faithful. Don’t let weariness steal the harvest You’ve promised. I will not give up because You are faithful and Your promises are true. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
