"'If you can'?" said Jesus. 'Everything is possible for the one who believes.'"

Mark 9:23

The Believer's Advantage

Jesus’s response here is striking. When someone questions whether He can do something, Jesus flips the question back: the issue isn’t what’s possible for Him—it’s what’s possible for the one who believes. Belief isn’t just a nice religious sentiment; it’s an actual advantage. It opens doors that doubt keeps locked. It creates pathways where skepticism sees only dead ends.

There’s a founder named Marcus who watched his neighborhood’s small business ecosystem declining — storefronts closing, foot traffic disappearing, longtime entrepreneurs giving up and relocating. Everyone said it was irreversible. “This market is done,” investors told him. “Nothing’s going to change the trajectory here.” But Marcus believed differently — not naively, but with the specific conviction of someone who had grown up there and understood what others were calculating as loss. He didn’t have significant capital, established connections, or a comprehensive plan. He had belief that something could be different and willingness to act from it. He started small: a shared commercial kitchen that allowed food entrepreneurs to launch without the overhead of their own facility. Neighbors called it a nice idea that wouldn’t scale. But he kept believing and building. Other entrepreneurs found the space and found each other. Then a small retail incubator. Then a business support program that attracted outside funding. Five years later, that neighborhood had a functioning small business ecosystem that researchers were studying as a replication model. When journalists asked Marcus how he had turned the trajectory, he said, “I just believed it was possible when everyone said it wasn’t. That belief made me see and build what others couldn’t see.”

That’s the believer’s advantage. When you genuinely believe something is possible, you act differently. You don’t give up at the first obstacle. You see solutions where others see problems. You take risks that skeptics won’t take. You persist when doubters quit. Belief doesn’t make you naive—it makes you unstoppable.

This isn’t about positive thinking or wishful hoping. It’s about anchoring your belief in something solid. When you believe in God’s ability and faithfulness, you approach impossible situations with a completely different mindset. What looks like the end to everyone else looks like a beginning to you. What seems like failure to others looks like a setup for something greater to you.

Everything becomes possible—not because you’re superhuman, but because belief unlocks resources, creativity, perseverance, and divine intervention that doubt never accesses.

Questions to Reflect On

  • Where have I let doubt convince me that something isn’t even worth trying?
  • What would I attempt if I truly believed everything was possible?
  • Am I surrounding myself with people who reinforce doubt or people who strengthen belief?
  • How has doubt cost me opportunities or kept me from taking necessary risks?

Action Steps & Motivation

Identify one “impossible” thing you’ve given up on because of doubt. Bring it back to the table. Ask yourself honestly: what if this actually is possible? What would change if you believed it could happen?

Challenge one limiting belief this week. We all carry assumptions about what we can’t do, can’t change, or can’t overcome. Pick one and test it. Take an action that contradicts that limitation and see what happens.

Surround yourself with believers, not just skeptics. Doubt is contagious, but so is faith. Spend time with people who believe big things are possible. Their belief will strengthen yours when it wavers.

Act on belief before you feel certain. Don’t wait until you’re 100% sure something will work. Belief means taking the step even when you’re not entirely sure of the outcome. Movement creates momentum.

Remember: belief is your advantage. While others are paralyzed by doubt, you’re moving forward. While others are calculating all the reasons something won’t work, you’re discovering ways it can. That’s not foolishness—that’s the power of believing in a God for whom nothing is impossible.

Prayer For Guidance and Strength

Lord, increase my belief. Help me see possibilities instead of limitations. Remove the doubt that paralyzes me and replace it with faith that moves me forward. When others say it can’t be done, give me the courage to believe it can. I trust that with You, everything truly is possible. Strengthen my faith to match Your power. Amen.
